I did it! 🎉 The anniversary story I’ve been working on for my husband is finally finished and currently being reviewed. It feels surreal to have it completed—something that started as just an idea has turned into a full-fledged story, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Now, the next challenge: attempting to illustrate it.
I’m not sure how that’s going to go, but hey, fingers crossed! If nothing else, it will be a fun experiment. Worst case, I learn something new. Best case? It turns out amazing, and I surprise myself. Either way, I’m excited to try.
Now that the anniversary project is off my plate, I’m diving back into some short stories I’ve been working on for my niece and nephew. I love writing for them—there’s something magical about crafting stories for young, curious minds. Monsters, heroes, wild adventures… I want them to feel like every story is an invitation to a new world.
And since I’m in the storytelling mood, here’s a little mini story for you:
.....
The Door That Shouldn’t Be
Simon and Penelope had seen plenty of strange things before—a frog wearing glasses, a cloud that rained jellybeans, even a cat that spoke in riddles. But never, ever, had they seen a door appear out of nowhere.
It stood in the middle of the woods, tall and dark, with no walls to hold it up. Just a lonely doorframe standing among the trees.
“Do we open it?” Simon asked, tilting his head.
“Of course we do,” Penelope said. “Why else would it be here?”
Simon hesitated. “What if it’s dangerous?”
Penelope grinned. “What if it’s an adventure?”
She turned the knob, the old brass cool in her hand. The door creaked open, revealing… well, nothing they expected.
Not another forest. Not a dark abyss.
But a staircase, spiraling downward into a place that smelled like cinnamon and secrets.
Simon swallowed. “Now we have to go.”
Penelope nodded. “Obviously.”
And together, they stepped through the door that shouldn’t be.
.....
I hope you enjoyed that little snippet! I’m planning to finish more short stories for my niece and nephew soon, and maybe I’ll share more along the way.
In the meantime, tell me—have you ever come across a door you weren’t supposed to open? Would you step through, or would you walk away? 👀
Happy reading, happy writing, and here’s to more stories ahead! ✨📖
