The Weight of Memories

The Weight of Memories

Just when you think you’ve found
All you needed, all you ever wanted—
It’s ripped away.

And though it’s gone,
The memories remain.
The thoughts, the moments, the feelings—
They linger.

They creep in at odd times,
When your mind should be focused
On work, on life, on anything else.
But there they are,
Popping up to remind you of the heartache.

It never really goes away, you know?
It just fades, slowly, painfully,
As the days crawl by.

Why won’t they invent a cure for this?
Something to make the heartache stop.
I wouldn’t care about side effects,
Not a damn bit—
Just release me from its grip.

Damn.
Damn.
